Research Topic Title:

Accounting and Finance

No. of Openings:

1

Description:

The project aims to address the growing demand for non-financial information and combat greenwashing. According to a report by the Global Sustainable Investment Alliance, the global sustainable investment market reached $31 trillion in assets under management in 2020, representing a 15% increase from the previous year (GSIA, 2020). This trend highlights the growing interest of investors in incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information into their investment decisions.

However, there is also a growing concern about the lack of transparency and accountability, particularly around the definition and impact of green investments. The lack of clear definitions and standards for non-financial reporting can result in greenwashing.

The successful candidate will work on (a) identifying how sustainable information is currently communicated and reported, (b) develop a model for exposing greenwashing practices using textual analysis, and (c) investigate the effects of greenwashing risk on capital markets.
