Department of Finance, Accounting and Management Science

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, every financial system faces two challenges and at the same time opportunities: first and foremost, no matter how isolated a world economy is, it is influenced by the forces of globalization and secondly, the Financial and Shipping sectors are key economic sectors, both domestically and globally.

The Department of Finance, Accounting and Management Science offers a curriculum that prepares students to effectively address these challenges and opportunities.

The curriculum of the Department focuses on three areas being the center of modern economic development and at the same time the main pillars for the financial strength of any nation, particularly Cyprus.

The programme also seeks to provide its students with an in-depth understanding of how these areas operate within a modern economic system and at the same time to provide them with the necessary tools for a successful career in the field of business management in the specific areas of commerce, finance and shipping.

During the first two years, the curriculum follows a basic core that equips students with strong foundations in quantitative and analytical critical thinking. In the third and fourth year, students deepen their knowledge in finance, with many specialized modules in this field.

Note: Students admitted by the Pancyprian examinations in the academic year 2024-25 will complete their studies only with finance direction.

In order to provide students with a good and comprehensive education that prepares them for the labor market, the Department also aims to establish close links with various businesses, industries as well as with governmental agencies, both locally and regionally.

These links will provide information to the Department regarding the quality of its graduates. They will also offer opportunities for students to complete their diplomatic study (which is carried out during the last semester of their studies) in a real work environment by analyzing existing problems / issues.

In this way, students will be able to apply the quantitative and analytical methods taught during their studies to cope with an existing problem, and at the same time critically comment thereon.

The Department of Finance, Accounting and Management Science will undertake a variety of research projects that will promote both basic and applied knowledge. The students of the Department will be able to participate in such research projects and will thus have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they will acquire from their lessons to research questions related to everyday reality.

The solid foundation provided by the curriculum will provide students with an undergraduate degree that will enable them to successfully pursue postgraduate studies either in Cyprus or abroad. The undergraduate degree of the Department is designed to prepare students properly and enable them to enroll in postgraduate programmes towards obtaining a Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or any postgraduate degree in Business Administration or Finance.

The programme provides students with the necessary knowledge of how the financial and shipping sectors operate in a modern economic system and at the same time supplies graduates with the necessary tools for a successful career in financial institutions, audit firms, public and private organizations and general business service companies.
