Professional background: He is currently a Senior Researcher A’ at the
Cyprus University of Technology. From 1974 until 2009, he worked in various scientific positions with the Cyprus’ Department of Meteorology. From 2009 until 2015, he was the Director of the Department of Meteorology; in this capacity, he served as the
Permanent Representative of Cyprus with the
World Meteorological Organization and Representative of Cyprus to various international and European organizations (
EUMETNET,
ECOMET,
IPCC,
GEO). He has also served for five years as the Chairman of the Tender Board of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus.
[...]He is a Member of the American Meteorological Society, the Hellenic Meteorological Society and the Cyprus Meteorological Association; also a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, and an Emeritus Member of European Geosciences Union. In 1988, he was awarded the International Research Award for Young Scientist by the World Meteorological Organization; in 1983 he was awarded the Meteorology Prize by the University of Reading, U.K. Also, two Prizes for Excellence were awarded by the Greek Foundation for Scholarships in 1971 and 1972.
Research: He has more than 44-years in scientific research, mostly in Meteorology, Climatology and Atmospheric Remote Sensing. He took part as Principal Investigator in six Projects funded by the European Union Framework Programmes (FP4, FP5, FP6 and FP7), Project Manager of three INTERREG Projects funded by the European Union, Coordinator or Principal Investigator of nine locally funded scientific projects (RPF) and Member of the Management Committees in four COST Projects.
He has published 115 peer-reviewed papers in International Journals, one book on precipitation (by Springer Verlag), four other books (by OPOCE Publishers), twenty-three Chapters in books by various International Publishers, more than one hundred and sixty International Conference Proceedings and Abstracts. He has Guest Edited thirty International Journal Special Issues, several Conference Proceedings and other publications. He is an Associate Editor of Atmospheric Research, and Heliyon and also Member of the Editorial Board of Renewable Energy and Remote Sensing.
