1. Why learn Greek?

There are 3 classrooms with multimedia at the CUT Language Centre building:

There are specifications for easy access by people with mobility difficulties only on the ground floor.
Registrations
1. How can I register for the Greek courses for the public?
You can register for the course during the registration period by filling out the online form below.
Sending the application does not also mean acceptance in the course. The candidates are informed by the CUT Language Center whether the course they have applied for will be offered during the specific semester. The main condition for running the course is the participation of at least 6 learners.
2. Who can enroll in Greek courses for the public?
The courses are open to non-native speakers who want to learn or improve their knowledge of the Greek language. The programs are aimed at adults.
3. What forms/documentations are needed for application?
A copy of residence permit, identity card or passport is needed.

2. How much do the courses cost?
The fees for our courses are 350 euros per semester and are paid in advance (early bird). Upon the commencement of the course the fees are 450 euros.
3. When do I have to pay?
Tuition fees are prepaid. You must submit payment at least one week before the start of the course.
4. Do I need to pay extra for the exams?
The tuition fees for the courses also cover the exam fees that you can sit for the final exams of the CUT Language Center.
5. I am not attending the courses at the CUT Language Center, can I sit for the exams?
Yes, you will need to submit an application (https://forms.gle/3U3sbWefHcVT5KECA) and pay the examination fees (60 euros).
6. I am not attending the courses at the CUT Language Center but I want to sit for the exams. Where should I pay?

After receiving a confirmation email that the exam will be carried out, you will have to proceed with the payment of the amount through www.jccsmart.com. Make sure you click on the GREEK LANGUAGE EXAMINATION field.

2. How is the course evaluated/graded?
Assessment is carried foramtively during the lessons (such as continuous feedback from the teachers, self-evaluation, peer-evaluation, online quizzes), but also summatively through an exam which learners takeat the end of the coruse. In the final assessment, the production and understanding of written and spoken language areevaluated.
3. When are the exams?
Exams are held at the end of each academic semester, i.e. January and May.

-Yes, the courses can be adapted to the needs and the level of our students.
2. I am a health professional (doctor, nurse, pharmacist), can I attend courses at the CUT Language Center?
The Language Center offers Greek courses, specially designed for Health professionals (e.g. Greek for doctors, pharmacists, nurses, caregivers).
3. I am a health professional (doctor, nurse) and I need a professional license. What language level should I take?
To be able to secure a license to practice the medical profession, you need a C1 level certificate.
4. Is the language proficiency certificate of the CUT Language Center recognized for health professionals and securing a professional license in Cyprus?
The language certificate is recognized by the Cyprus Medical Council.

Courses can be offered:
a) with physical presence
b) in hybrid mode
c) entirely online
The mode of offering the courses is determined by the needs of each group of learners.

You can find all contact information and office hours of each course instructor in the course outline provided at the beginning of each course. Otherwise you can contact the CUT LanguageCenter Secretary at 25002206, from 7.30-14.30 daily, and from 15.00-18.00 on Wednesdays.

1. When do classes start?
Courses usually start at the beginning of the academic semester, i.e. every September and January. Upon request, courses can start immediately, provided that there is a minimum number of 7 participants.
2. How many teaching hours are required for each level?
The table below shows how many hours of teaching and independent study you may need to reach each level of the Common European Framework of Languages (CEFA). These hours are indicative. You may need more or less time and support depending on your own needs.

3. What is the Common European Framework of Languages (CEFR)?
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is an international standard for describing language abilities. It is used around the world to describe students' language skills. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment, CEFR) is a guideline used to describe the achievement of foreign language learners across Europe and, increasingly, in other countries (for example, Colombia and the Philippines). Its main aim is to provide a method of learning, teaching and assessment which applies to all languages in Europe . In November 2001, a resolution of the Council of the European Union recommended the use of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for the establishment of language proficiency validation systems. The six reference levels are widely accepted as the European standard for grading a person's language proficiency.

4. When (what times) are the courses offered?
Classes are offered mainly in the afternoon. Upon request, morning classes can also be offered.
5. When did the CUT Language Center start offering Greek courses to the public?
Greek courses for the public have been offered since 2009. Since then, the number of students has been constantly increasing.
6. Are there opportunities for reduced tuition fees or scholarships?
No, there is no possibility of reduced tuition fees or scholarships.
7. What books should I buy for the courses?
There are no specific teaching manuals. The material used are designed by the instructors of the CUT Language Center, taking into account the needs and learning styles of the learners . A suggested list of textbooks for further study is provided.
