Fine Arts Deparment

The Department of Fine and Applied Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology is a key meeting point for scientific and artistic research and creation. The Fine Arts Department, in particular, aims to become a space of research and art creation and in a broader sense of culture. Having an international perspective, the department aims to become a hub between Europe and the Middle East, bringing back the age-old role of the Mediterranean as a crossover field, a field of contaminants, interactions and cosmopolitanism. At the same time, it aims to create an environment (characterized by a high theoretical and aesthetic level) to upgrade and enrich the dialogue on cultural affairs of Cyprus and to create the necessary infrastructure for the international promotion of our contemporary art.

These studies will be enriched by the significant presence of courses in History and Theory of Fine Arts, Architecture, New Media and Philosophy (including Aesthetics) of Art.

The launch the postgraduate Programme in the History and Theory of Art, which rendered the Fine Arts Department operational since September 2015 is directly related to the  significance attributed to the historical, philosophical and general theoretical training of students.

Within the undergraduate Fine Arts degree, the Fine Arts Department offers studies in two-dimensional (painting) and three-dimensional (sculpture) creation, as well as in technological applications in art – from photography to video and to digital, visual and sound applications. The programme is heavily complemented by courses in the History and Theory of Visual Arts, Architecture and New Media, as well as in Philosophy (including Aesthetics) of Art.
