The MA in TELL Programme is offered through the following system:

• Eight online courses (LCE 510, 511, 512, 513, 514, 515, 516 & 517)

All courses last thirteen weeks each and follow the same general format, which consists of online lectures, workshops and work in small groups or individually. Students complete each course on a weekly basis. The courses include online synchronous learning (webinars and tutorials, collaborative work task-based assignments) and asynchronous learning (access to course materials in online learning environments such as Moodle, Google Drive, Facebook course groups, websites, etc.).  

• Online Course LCE 580 - Dissertation 

The MA in TELL Dissertation course is carried out as independent study under the online supervision of a supervisor.

Anytime, anywhere!

• 'Live' classes are held during each semester for each course; students can come to class mostly whenever it's convenient for them by choosing when to meet.
• The course is conducted according to a weekly schedule. Apart from the 'live' classes, all other activities such as asynchronous lectures, coursework, and discussions take place at students' convenience. Students choose the place - at home, at school - wherever they have Internet access.
• They get the same high-quality instruction and course content as any other on-campus course, minus the day-to-day obstacles that prevent so many of us from pursuing other goals.

Learning mode

• In this online Programme, students use a computer to connect to the MA in TELL Programme site on the World Wide Web.
• Online lectures may be entirely text-based or consist of some combination of text, graphics, sound and video or are live.
• Course content is broken up into smaller units, consisting of synchronous and asynchronous activities such as group discussion, collaborative work, artefact construction, quizzes, and other types of learning tasks.

Communication

• Students communicate with their lecturers and other students via live teleconferencing sessions, online forums, chat rooms, text messages, e-mail and electronic submissions.
• The Programme is designed so that students have online access to assignments, complete them at their own time on a weekly basis (but with a scheduled due date), and then submit or share them as electronic documents. Their assignments should blend current theories and practices with their teaching needs and should aim to improve their teaching.
• Online discussions and chatting are used, as an integral part of all courses. These give the opportunity to students to share information, collaborate, and interact with other fellow students.    

Delivery Mode

Asynchronous

1.         Regular communication is expected between student and lecturer, student and student(s) via email, FB, Moodle, Teleconferencing, etc. Students are expected to check their email, Moodle and FB on a regular daily basis.

2.         Students are expected to engage in activities and tasks of about 4-6 hours to 8-10 hours per course weekly. It is important for weekly tasks to be completed on time and before the due date is reached.

3.         Students are expected to read or listen to the course material, respond in different forms (FB, Google Doc collaboration, teleconferencing, etc.)

4.         Each lecturer has regular communication with student(s) in ways such as:

   a.      The lecturer will communicate with students via email, which are checked daily. Students are expected to set up email forwarding to their preferred accounts. As best practice, faculty and students should keep all course-related communications within Moodle, the Online Learning Environment space, for the purpose of maintaining confidentiality of student education record information.

   b.      Lecturers hold virtual office hours, during which students can ask questions; they use Announcements weekly, Facebook, Messenger or other means to communicate messages to students.

5.         The course delivery consists of the following:

  a.       Audio Narrations with PPT which can be viewed by students asynchronously, at any time and place convenient to them

  b.       Recorded lectures followed by asynchronous Discussion in FB

  c.       Multimedia presentations

Synchronous

1.         Live Online Sessions or virtual classrooms. These will be synchronous. They are e-learning events where the lecturer teaches remotely and in real time a group of learners using a combination of materials (e.g. PPT slides, audio, video or multimedia materials, etc.). This method requires appropriate technology for both the learners (e.g. software for the virtual classroom and good connectivity) and providers, scheduled meeting times will be organised.

2. Students are expected to access course material on Moodle, Google Drive and Facebook.
