He is recipient of 1 external research grant and several internal grants as principal investigator. His research interests include a wide array of subjects in oncology nursing, supportive and palliative care. His studies explore the advanced management of symptoms (or cluster of symptoms) induced by the cancer treatments. Within his studies complementary and alternative therapies are tested in the effective management of these common, persistent and severe symptoms. Cancer types that fall within the interest of Dr Charalambous include Head and Neck Cancer, Lung Cancer, Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer. The development of theoretical frameworks to care for the patient diagnosed with cancer, the construction of tools to assess the quality of the nursing care provided to patients diagnosed with cancer and the assessment of sialadenitis in Head and Neck Cancer patients hold a prominent place in his works.
