Research Topic Title:

Advancing the energetic performance of upcycled biopolyol production towards the green transition of construction materials via innovative continuous reactor and Industry.

No. of Openings:

2

Description:

A critical challenge that the construction and building sectors face towards becoming more sustainable refers to the use of unsustainable chemicals in various thermal insulation applications and building renovation. Polyurethane (PU) polymers are widely used to produce rigid foams for thermal insulation of construction elements and appliances such as water heater tanks and refrigerators. However, the production of key PU ingredients – polyols, still relies on petroleum derivatives or food-competitive and high land use change invoking biomass feedstocks. Today, there is a growing demand for truly sustainable, waste-based biochemical alternatives. REnew-Bio project partners will co-develop a novel integrated production system for more efficient conversion of industrial by-products and waste biomass into high-quality biopolyols.

Funding:

Yes from Research and Innovation Foundation (IDEK)

Required Qualifications:

Candidates should possess an undergraduate degree or postgraduate qualification at the Master level from accredited universities in chemical engineering, or any other related field. A strong background Chemical Reaction Engineering and in computer programming using MATLAB, gPROMS, COMSOL Multiphysics or similar languages is required.

Research Topic Title:

NOVEL NANO-ENHANCED CARBON CAPTURE (CCS) SYSTEMS FOR INDUSTRIAL POST COMBUSTION PROCESSES

No. of Openings:

3

Description:

The scope this research is to develop a small-scale, portable intensified membrane device that delivers more effective CO2 capture compared to incumbent technologies, whose deployment is not confined to large-scale power plants (as incumbent systems), but also in smaller localised sites. The membrane developed in this proposal will be designed for CO2 removal, but could equally be used to remove pollutants such as NOx, CO, CH4, H2S and SO2.
