Positions for PhD studies at CUT are defined by the Department and published by the University’s Student Services, every academic semester. Prospective students can apply to the programme by completing an application form and providing all supporting documents according to the regulations of the university.
All applications are evaluated by the department and depending on the applicant’s qualifications, they are shortlisted for a face to face personal interview. Successful candidates are offered a PhD position if they satisfy the evaluation committee’s requirements. The PhD offer explicitly specify the courses that the student will need to undertake.

Applicants must have an accredited University degree, awarded by an accredited institution in the country where it operates, or a degree evaluated as equivalent to University degree by the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications (KYSATS).
The following documents are required to be submitted, with the applications:
- Photocopy of ID card or passport.
- Photocopies of a recognized Master's and Undergraduate Degrees. The former should be fully completed or a statement must be provided confirming its completion prior to commencing the doctoral programme.
- Certificate of proficiency in English*
- Performance of Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. The minimum threshold mark for both qualifications is 7.5 / 10 or equivalent.
- Curriculum vitae
- A short report (500 words) with the reasons for selecting the programme, the research objectives and the candidate's interests.
- A brief report (1,000 words) in which the candidate presents the research area he / she wishes to investigate.
- Other certificates and documents such as sample of relevant research work (publications, articles, research, digital work, etc.).
- Candidates are requested when submitting their application to disclose the contact details of two academics from whom the Department may request recommendations.
- Candidates who satisfy above requirements and the Committee of Postgraduate Studies of the Department will be invited to attend a personal interview.
- The Department may request additional information.
* Acceptable evidence of English language proficiency is the G.C.E. O level exam with a pass mark of at least C or IELTS with a pass mark of at least 6.5 or TOEFL with a pass mark of at least 580 (paper-based test)/ 82 (internet-based test). Graduates of an English-language university degree programme are exempt from this requirement.
