The purpose of the PhD programme is to provide students with skills and competencies to undertake high quality research of doctoral level by analyzing existing scientific knowledge, utilizing primary and secondary data and generate new knowledge that will impact positively science, industry and society. This is realized through the initial attendance of advanced courses and seminars, the undertaking of quality novel research in a specialized field and the ability to present the results in a clear and cohesive manner through dissemination of output in high caliber scientific journals and conferences.
In particular, the programme is expected to provide:
- students with the required knowledge and skills to undertake in-depth research study;
- an environment that encourages student research creativity;
- skills to enable the student to critically examine the background literature relevant to their specific research area;
- the opportunity to develop research skills, in defining and testing hypotheses, in developing new theories, and in planning and conducting experiments; developing practical research skills and learn new state of the art in research techniques
- the opportunity to expand the student’s knowledge of their research area, including its theoretical foundations and the specific techniques used to study it
- an environment in which to develop skills in written work, oral presentation and publishing the results of their research in high-profile scientific journals and conferences.
