Yesterday, March 22 2018, at the premises of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in Limassol, an info day event for the new Master in public health (MPH) took place for the public. The event was organized by the Cyprus International Institute for Environmental and Public Health (CII) and the School of Health Science of CUT. The event was attended by representatives of the Minister of Health and the Minister of Education and Culture, the representative of the Mayor of Limassol, members of the university community and students.
Mr. Andreas Papoulas, Deputy Director of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education expressed the courtesy of the Minister of Education for the high quality academic work done at CUT and at the CII. He also stressed the importance of English-taught postgraduate programs in higher education in Cyprus. Then, Ms. Nicolaides, Assistant Director of the General Hospital of Limassol who represented the Minister of Health at the event highlighted the importance of postgraduate studies in public health based on the needs of the new general health system. She also mentioned the high quality academic programs at CII being the first research institute in Cyprus to engage in public and environmental health research.
Associate Professor Kostas Christofi analyzed the structure and requirements of the postgraduate program in public health, which is the first offered by a public university in Cyprus.
The MPH is perhaps the most popular and recognized area of specialization in public health and health sciences, and it will include modules in the basic principles of public health, computational methods and the practical application of modern approaches to public health.
The MPH program includes modules such as population health, health policy and economics, health education and health promotion, and so on. The program is particularly attractive for doctors and nurses, for professionals in the public health field, for mathematicians and statisticians responsible for disease surveillance and other relevant sectors wishing to specialize in public health (e.g., social sciences, biology).
