IAESTE Cyprus proudly announces that Cyprus will host the 72nd Annual Conference of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) Annual Conference. The Annual Conference will be held in Limassol for a total of seven consecutive days from 18 January to 24 January 2019. The Annual Conference has been held regularly since the organization was founded in 1948 and is attended by over 200 delegates and representatives from 90 member countries.
The Cyprus bid was submitted to the Board of IAESTE A.s.b.l. last October and presented in Seoul, South Korea during the 70th Annual Conference in January 2017. The bid was supported by the IAESTE Cyprus Board, the Cyprus University of Technology and the Cyprus Tourism Organization.
IAESTE was founded in 1948 at Imperial College, London, where representatives from ten European countries agreed on the initiative. The geographical coverage soon spread to include exchange in over 80 countries on all continents, to include the Republic of Cyprus in 1980. The IAESTE Cyprus National Committee was founded in 1980 through the Higher Technical Institute (HTI) and has been administered by the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) since 2011. IAESTE Cyprus is also a Founding Member of IAESTE A.s.b.l., a registered body according to Luxembourg law.
IAESTE is an independent non-governmental association with 89 Members and Co-operating Institutions in operational relations with UNESCO. The association of national committees represent academic, industrial and student interests and serves 4000 students, 3000 employers, and 1000 academic institutions annually through career-focused professional internships abroad, social and intercultural reception programs, international networking and other career and employer branding activities. Since its inception, IAESTE has exchanged more than 350,000 students worldwide, playing a key role in the development of young engineers and scientists.
The National Secretary of IAESTE Cyprus, Dr. Charalambos Chrysostomou, stated that hosting the 2019 IAESTE Annual Conference will promote Cyprus at an international level and will further build on its value-adding global network. Dr. Chrysostomou expressed his gratitude to the IAESTE Cyprus Board, the Cyprus Tourism Organization, and the Cyprus University of Technology for their support of the bid to host the Annual Conference, as well as the main sponsor of IAESTE Cyprus, the Limassol Co-operative Savings Society.
