As part of the Design for All (MGA 320) course of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of CUT, students were invited to design human-centric applications, taking into account special and vulnerable population groups. For the first time, CUT and the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts (https://www.cut.ac.cy/faculties/aac/mga), collaborated with Junior Achievement (JA) Cyprus (https://jacyprus.org) so that applications design by the students could be presented at the Junior Achievement Competition "StartUp 2020".
A total of eight design solutions were completed in the form of high-fidelity prototypes, under the supervision of CUT instructors: Dr. Andri Ioannou (Associate Professor) and Panagiotis Hatzikostis (Specialist Scientist). The general framework (brief) was given by Dr. Olia Tsivitanidou (Postdoctoral Researcher, RISE). Within this general brief, eight teams worked creatively and systematically during the academic semester, Spring 2020, to design eight unique human-centered applications.
With the help of CUT academics, Dr. Stelios Giatros, Dr. Alexandros Charalambidis and Dr. Elias Chatzilias, three of the eight teams were short-listed to take part in the final competition: Team Dare - Darepost (Vera Neokleous, Georgia Savva, Despina Egglezou, Dimitra Michael, Mikaella Charalambous), Hibiscus Team - Pump it (Anastasia Melandinou, Antonis Panagiotou, Eleni Georgiou, Maria Panti, Michalis Achilleos, Natasa Panagiotou), Exploit Team - EXPLOIT (Loukas Grigoriou, Stefanos Chrysanthou, Tara Abbas Dashti, and Fanis Machmalaz!).
We are proud of all the students who participated!
In the Junior Achievement Final Competition "StartUp 2020" held on June 1, 2020 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQjCJUOO8QKo), the Exploit Team - EXPLOIT Team won the 2nd prize for 1000 euros. Congratulations to Loukas Grigoriou, Stefanos Chrysanthou, Tara Abbas Dashti, and Fanis Machmalaz!
