DigitalHEIghts – Digital upskilling pathways for sustainable assessment in Higher Education

Νέα-Ανακοινώσεις

The COVID-19 pandemic affected 95% of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Worldwide, educational institutions shifted teaching and learning towards emergency remote teaching to respond to the restrictions and challenges posed by the pandemic. This situation took a toll on how assessment took place.

Any attempt to integrate digital technologies into teaching and learning should take into consideration how digital technologies can enhance existing assessment strategies. At the same time, it is important to consider how digital technologies can be used to create or facilitate innovative assessment approaches. These two objectives are at the heart of the DigitalHEIghts project.

According to recent European studies, digital training is a priority in Europe. However, numerous HEIs in Member States do not have a strategic plan to pursue this objective. It is essential for academics to not only re-conceptualise their professional profiles, functions and roles, but also to enhance their training and professional competencies and skills to keep up with emerging technologies and digital transformation.

The DigitalHEIghts project (Erasmus+) aims to promote a sustainable pathway for transforming assessment in higher education through developing digital readiness, resilience and capacity and supporting the higher education sector’s digital capabilities, making use of the DigComp Edu framework for Higher Education. More specifically, the project aims to support the digital upskilling of faculty members within the field of digital assessment and to develop integrated learning material in the field of digital assessment that will support faculty members/academics and researchers. The intention is to enhance educators’ pedagogic competencies in assessment through digital means.

As an essential part of the Erasmus+ project ‘DigitalHEIghts,’ the European partners have developed a brief survey comprising 10 questions (10-15 minutes) to evaluate the competencies of academics in online assessment of learners in Higher Education.
