“The CUT gave me the opportunity to receive an education, and everyone here supported me with love and understanding”
The inspiring journey of 26-year-old Lekoora Moses Saibulu, a member of the Maasai community in Kenya, stands as a remarkable example of education’s potential to transform lives, bridge cultural divides, and pave the way for a more inclusive future.
Moses is in his final year of Nursing Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), thanks to a full scholarship awarded to him by the university through the Holy Metropolis of Kenya.
The Cyprus University of Technology has a long-standing tradition of offering full scholarships to students from African countries. These scholarships enable young individuals to pursue undergraduate studies in Nursing Studies and other areas at the CUT, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering global education and inclusion.
Pursuing nursing was not just a career decision for Moses, but an act of love and contribution to others. Despite the initial challenges of adapting to a different culture, Moses’ journey has been remarkable. With the support of the Language Centre of the CUT, Moses learned Greek and quickly integrated into the academic community and “family” of the university.
Moses is currently completing his placement at the Limassol General Hospital, where he works with dedication offering patients the help and care they need for a speedy recovery. He notes that colleagues treat him with respect and appreciation, as they would an experienced professional nurse.
After completing his studies, Moses wishes to return to his community in Kenya and contribute to the improvement of healthcare, equipped with the knowledge and experience he gained at the CUT. He says, “the CUT gave me the opportunity to receive an education, and everyone here supported me with love and understanding. My professors and fellow students became my second family. I am really grateful for this. Thank you for the love, help and support. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to get to where I am today”.
Moses’ story is a source of inspiration and an example of dedication and service, proving how education can change lives, bridge differences, and build a just, inclusive and humane future.
