“Futureproofing education and training for the construction sector” Dissemination event or Buildskills Academy project

Νέα-Ανακοινώσεις

Limassol, July. 3rd - The BuildSkills Academy project hosted a dynamic dissemination event at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) in Limassol. The event featured an interactive site visit and presentations of the two pilot training courses that will soon be available at CUT, enhancing green and digital skills in the construction sector.

The event commenced with a site visit to EUT Construct’s construction simulation site, where attendees experienced firsthand the innovative project being developed by students. This was followed by an overview of the BuildSkills Methodology (BESM), demonstrating its role in creating a resilient and digitally skilled construction workforce.

The event brought together representatives from the construction sector, vocational education and training (VET), academia, professional associations, and governmental departments and services. Participants examined the BESM, an innovative approach designed to serve as an evaluation tool for VET providers, helping them assess their training programs and align them, through specific recommendations, with green and digital skills, making them more relevant and sustainable.

Through the Bulldskills Academy, 12 pilot courses will be delivered by 6 VET providers across six countries (Cyprus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Lithuania). These courses, corresponding to European Qualifications Framework (EQF) levels from 3 to 7, have been developed or enriched with the support of the BESM and the corresponding self-assessment tool. The respective syllabi are currently under evaluation.

Dr. Stelios Yiatros introduced two pilot courses that exemplify the practical application of BESM in Cyprus. Ms. Irene Constantinou presented the first pilot course, focusing on Bio-Inspired Innovation and Design for Sustainable Engineering Solutions, showcasing pioneering approaches to sustainable construction practices. The second course, Risk and Reliability in Health and Safety, was presented by Ms Georgia Savva, highlighting critical advancements in safety protocols within the industry. Both courses will be available towards the beginning of 2026 by the Lifelong Learning Centre of the Cyprus University of Technology.

Participants expressed interest in the pilot courses, and what was particularly important for them was that they would be recognised through ECTs and micro-credentials.

Dr. Stelios Yiatros then introduced the Blended Intensive Programme at EUT Construct, connected to the site visit participants experienced earlier, emphasising its role in integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. Two students shared their personal

journeys, detailing their roles in organising the program and discussing the essential skills required for success in the construction sector.

The construction sector is seen by many as the driving force of growth and investing in enriching the training of construction professionals with green and digital skills is as important and timely as ever. The Buildskills Academy pilot courses aim to play a crucial role in upskilling the construction workforce across EQF levels and across Europe and become a benchmark in futureproofing Construction VET programmes.
