Distinction of Students of the Inter-University Master in the Design and Development of Electronic Games and Interactive Technologies at the “Cyprus Game Day II: Conference and Game Jam.”


UNITY Technologies, in collaboration with Microsoft and the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology, organized Cyprus Game Day II: Conference and Game Jam on September 9-11, 2017 at the Cyprus University of Technology.
The event included presentations by distinguished speakers on issues related to the development of electronic games, and a game development competition. The theme of the competition was the development of a computer game related to Japan. Teams taking part in the competition had 48 hours to design and implement their game using the UNITY3D game engine (https://unity3d.com/)and the Microsoft AZURE cloud computing platform (https://azure.microsoft.com ). The evaluation of the games was carried out by developers working at WARGAMING, one of the world's largest electronic gaming development company.

A team of students from the Inter-University Masters in the Design and Development of Electronic Games and Interactive Technologies, offered jointly by the Cyprus University of Technology and University of Cyprus (http://mscgames.cut.ac.cy/), has been the winner of the competition. In particular, the team with the postgraduate students Andreas Andreou, Theodoros Konstantinou, Michalis Prodromos and Sergios Stamatis as well as Andreas Yavroutas, Nik Popov, Stefanos Filippou and Iakovos Hadjikosti won the competition with the multiplayer game "J4pan: Mecha Wars" which was designed and developed within 48 hours. Iδn addition to the prize money and an XBOX device, the winners of the contest gained significant experience while also gaining recognition and appreciation of their skills in the design and implementation of games by leading companies in game development such as WARGAMING, UNITY and Microsoft . It is also noted that Kalia Aristeidou, a graduate of the Master's Degree in Electronic Games and Interactive Technology Design and Development, participated in the team of the FM-GAMES game development company (http://www.fm-games.com/), which won the second place in the competition.
Over the last five years, the Cyprus University of Technology, in cooperation with the University of Cyprus, offer the specialized Masters Degree in Design and Development of Electronic Games and Interactive Technologies. This interdisciplinary program provides the necessary scientific, technical and design background for students wishing to become professionals or researchers in the field of designing and developing electronic games and interactive technologies.
