Organization of the international interdisciplinary conference SPASEC-27 & AOTs-28 at CUT

The Department of Chemical Engineering of Cyprus University of Technology will co-organize and host the 27th International Conference on Semiconductor Photocatalysis and Solar Energy Conversion (SPASEC-27) and the 28th International Conference on Advanced Oxidation Technologies for Treatment of Water, Air and Soil (AOTs-28) (https://redoxtech.com/) at the university's premises on June 11th to 14th, 2024. During the conference, investigations on the environmental applications of semiconductors and advanced oxidation processes will be presented.

These joint conferences are held every two years in Canada or the United States of America and occasionally in Europe. However, this year, that marks the 30th anniversary of these conferences, it was decided to have them in Cyprus as a tribute to the late Professor Dionysios D. Dionysiou (University of Cincinnati, USA). Professor Dionysiou, who was born in Yiolou, has significant and ground-breaking contributions in the fields of photocatalysis and chemical oxidation. He held a Diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, and obtained a Master's degree from Tufts University, in Boston and a doctoral degree at the University of Cincinnati, where he started his academic career in 2000. His academic achievements and contributions to Environmental Engineering have received worldwide recognition. The decision to host this conference in his home-country is a token of appreciation for his dedication and countless contributions to the global scientific community. In addition, for the past decade he has been working closely with the research group of Dr. Maria G. Antoniou of the Department of Chemical Engineering of Cyprus University of Technology, who is leading the local organizing committee of the conference together with Mrs. Nicoletta I. Tsiartas (CUT), Prof. Polykarpos Falaras (DIMOKRITOS) and Prof. Iphigenia Kagalou (Democritus University of Thrace).

So far, speakers from more than 30 countries have submitted abstracts for oral and poster presentations. During the conference, two honorary awards will be given to researchers who have made significant contributions in the fields of photocatalysis and AOPs. More information on abstract and awards submission can be found on the conference website (https://redoxtech.com/).
