Τhomas Photiadis has gained his PhD from the
Cyprus Interaction Lab at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, at the Cyprus University of Technology
His research topic concentrated on the affection of aesthetic experience in 3D environments. It specialized on how user-experience affects aesthetics through 3D avatars by using HCI (Human-Computer Interaction) methodologies. In other words, he examined the influences that aesthetic experience has on individual behavior through the procedure of designing and interaction with 3D avatars.
During his studies he has also held the position of research assistant, investigating typography
[...]and subtitling via eye tracker equipment. The purpose of the first part of the research was to find out the most readable Greek fonts on screen, analyzing the user’s gaze. The second part was related to open titles movies and subtitling, in order to focus on the user’s concentration point when s/he is watching a movie with subtitles, and when an intro is displayed. Both his Undergraduate and Masters Degrees were on Product and Industrial design, particularly on promoting Online Brand Identity using HCI (Human – Computer Interaction) methodologies.
He previously held the position of Teaching Assistant at the University, as well as an instructor in the Ministry of Education and Culture (Adult Education Centre).
