Dr Christiana Filippou is a Civil and Structural Engineer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). Her research focuses on advanced construction materials and prefabricated strengthening systems, investigated through experimental research and numerical modelling for the assessment and retrofitting of existing reinforced concrete (RC) structures.

She holds a BSc in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Cyprus (2011), an MSc in Analysis and Design of Earthquake Resistant Structures from the National Technical University of Athens, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Cyprus University of Technology (2021). In 2023, she was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Minho, Portugal. Her MSCA project, i-SeePanel, focuses on the development and large-scale experimental investigation of advanced composite materials incorporated into innovative prefabricated strengthening systems for the integrated seismic and energy upgrading of existing building envelopes, following a Life Cycle Thinking approach.

Dr Filippou has participated in several research projects, including SupERB (Novel Integrated Approach for Seismic and Energy Upgrading of Existing Buildings), ISTOS (Centre for Natural Hazard Management), and research activities at the ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence related to building risk assessment and natural-hazard risk mitigation. She is currently conducting postdoctoral research at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics at CUT within the Horizon Europe project CYQCI, focusing on the real-time structural monitoring of RC structures using optical fibre sensing technologies. She also leads and coordinates the experimental activities of the Infrastructure Research Group within the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics.

Alongside her research activities, Dr Filippou has several years of university teaching, laboratory teaching, and module coordination experience. Since 2021, she has coordinated and taught undergraduate courses at CUT across the Departments of Civil Engineering and Geomatics, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. Her teaching covers core engineering subjects, including Engineering Mechanics, Strength of Materials, Construction Materials, Structural Engineering, and Numerical Methods. She has extensive laboratory teaching experience, particularly in Strength of Materials and Construction Materials, involving the organisation, supervision, and delivery of experimental testing activities. She has also taught Construction Materials and related experimental laboratory activities at the University of Cyprus and serves as a Visiting Lecturer at Neapolis University Pafos, with teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Her academic background is complemented by professional experience as a design engineer, site engineer, and technical advisor on rehabilitation and retrofitting projects in Cyprus, including projects implemented under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). She is a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) and the Cyprus Association of Civil Engineers (SPOLMIK). In 2022, she received the Cyprus University of Technology Female Personality Award, “To Square the Circle”.
