Dr. Paraskevas Nikolaou completed his undergraduate studies at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He further advanced his academic journey at the University of Cyprus, where he earned an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering, specializing in Construction and Transport Infrastructure Management. In December 2020, he was awarded a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Cyprus. His doctoral research, titled "Regional Spatio-Temporal Explanatory Modelling of Macroscopic Transportation Information for Supporting Decision-Making Processes," provided innovative insights into transportation modeling and decision support systems. From May 2022 to January 2024, Dr. Nikolaou conducted postdoctoral research [...]at Aristotle University, focusing on the spatio-temporal interplay between urban development and transportation systems.

Dr. Nikolaou has significant teaching experience, delivering undergraduate courses such as "Transportation Engineering" and "Highway Engineering" at Frederick University and the University of Cyprus.

His research focuses on spatial-temporal analysis in transportation, multimodal freight transport demand, and the impacts of urban planning on transportation systems. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and conferences, with notable studies on transit network optimization, road safety, public transportation redesign, and airport resilience against global infectious disease outbreaks. His work has been featured in leading conferences, including the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting. Additionally, Dr. Nikolaou serves as a reviewer for prestigious international journals.

Dr. Nikolaou also brings extensive professional experience since 2017, including conducting surveys, road design studies, consulting services, and contributing to various transportation and infrastructure projects. His work includes road safety assessments and highway design, as well as advancing transit system development in Cyprus.

His primary research interests include, but are not limited to:
  • Road safety and accident analysis
  • Planning and designing for sustainable urban transportation systems
  • Highway design
  • Transportation and spatial development
  • Transport system resilience
  • Application of emerging technologies in transport
  • Data analytics in transportation
  • Evaluating public transport performance
