Dr. Stylianos Hadjipetrou is currently employed at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) as a project research associate. In this role, he coordinates various projects funded by the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and the European Commission (EC) under Horizon Europe, ensuring seamless execution and impactful results. Alongside his project management duties, he is conducting independent research in geospatial modeling and simulation, focusing on addressing critical societal and environmental challenges.
Stylianos holds a B.Eng. from the Department of Planning and Regional Development at the University of Thessaly (2015) and an M.Sc.
[...]in “Spatial Analysis and Environmental Management” from the same department, graduating with honors. He subsequently pursued a Ph.D. in “Geostatistics and Spatial Analysis in Engineering and Geosciences” at the Department of Civil Engineering and Geomatics at CUT, under the supervision of Prof. Phaedon Kyriakidis. His Ph.D. research led to the development of a stochastic framework for reconstructing Sentinel-1 wind speed image time series using Multiple-Point Geostatistical (MPGS) simulation.
Stylianos’ main research interests include Geoinformatics, Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing. His Ph.D. work sparked a deeper interest in geostatistical modeling of geographical variables and applications in engineering, as well as earth and environmental sciences. Additionally, his research during his Ph.D. inspired him to explore big data in weather and climate variables towards the development of novel simulation approaches for weather forecasting using machine learning tools and techniques. As a member of the Geospatial Analytics Research Laboratory at CUT, Stylianos has actively contributed to a range of projects at the intersection of geostatistics, geoinformatics, and spatial analysis. He also brings valuable experience from the private sector, having worked as a Town Planner and GIS Specialist for over two years.
Stylianos has teaching experience in GIS-related undergraduate courses as a teaching assistant. He is a recipient of the Cyprus State Scholarship Foundation (IKY) Ph.D. scholarship (2017–2020) and was awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (FCS) for the academic year 2020–2021. Since November 2016, he has been a member of the Scientific Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK).
