Dean’s Welcome
Dear Visitors,
I welcome you to the website of the School of Health Sciences, which consists of two departments, the Department of Nursing and the Department of Rehabilitation, which in addition to undergraduate programs offer innovative high-level postgraduate programs. Soon, we expect our Occupational Therapy program to welcome the first students in the Department of Rehabilitation, as well as that the Public Health Research Unit which is expected to play a very important role in public health, will be established.
Our School is the first School of Health Sciences in Cyprus and, despite its young age, has impressive research work to demonstrate, which is documented by numerous international collaborations and its recognition at an international level. It is noteworthy that, based on the relevant international ranking lists, the Department of Nursing is consistently among the top departments at an international level.
Our programs provide our undergraduate and graduate students with not only a very high level of knowledge and skills to succeed in the professional field, but also prepare them and give them all the tools to develop and distinguish themselves as scientists. The best proof of this comparative advantage is our graduates who are sought after in the job market and many of them have been awarded for their innovative ideas and research work and have been distinguished internationally.
The School’s contribution to society is very large and the connection with almost all social partners and the local community is very close at all levels: advisory services, participation in decision-making, contribution to health prevention and promotion, support in dealing with emergencies, etc. It is characteristic that during the pandemic, our School took the lead with the active participation of both our teaching staff and our students. It is noteworthy that even at their first steps and despite the inherent difficulties, the Department of Nursing successfully undertook and implemented the largest upgrading program attended by almost 3,500 nurses, while the Department of Rehabilitation designed, organized and successfully operates the first University Rehabilitation - Speech Therapy Clinic that offers diagnostic and therapeutic speech therapy sessions for people with communication disorders.
However, all of this would not have been achieved without the enthusiasm and dedication of the administrative and teaching staff of our School. I personally, as Dean, but also all the staff, are committed to the further development and continuous improvement of the quality of services we offer to our students and society.
