Dimitris Sokratous holds a Bachelor Science Degree in Physiotherapy (Excellent / Scholarship) (2012), from the Charles University of Prague, Czech Republic. He received his Master of Science Degree in "Brain and Cognitive Sciences" (Excellent) in 2018 from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT). During his MSC studies he had theoretical and practical knowledge on Non-Invasive Brain Stimulation techniques and become familiar with neuroimaging techniques. Moreover, he is a PhD candidate in the field of Neurorehabilitation, at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, Faculty of Health Sciences, of the CUT. Additionally, he [...]holds a Bachelor Science Degree in Physical Education and Sports Science (Merit), from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science, School of Health Sciences, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (2009).

He has a full-time job as the senior physiotherapist at the Physiotherapy Unit, of the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, since 2020. As a senior physiotherapist he coordinates and supervises all clinical assessments and interventions of adults with chronic neurological diseases, as well he is involved in several research studies in various clinical cohorts. Also, he is working as a Special Teaching Staff at the Frederick University (Limassol campus) in which he teaches the subject of “Sport Physiotherapy” and “Exercise in Clinical Cohorts (Neurological patients)”, in the undergraduate program of Physical Education and Sport Science. Also, during the academic year 2021-2022 he taught “Neurological Physiotherapy” and “Clinical Practice in Adult Neurological Physiotherapy” at the University of Nicosia, School of Life and Health Sciences, in the undergraduate program of Physiotherapy.

From 2012 until 2019 he worked as a professional physiotherapist and was the head of the Aquatic Therapy Unit at the Rehabilitation Department, of Melathron Agoniston EOKA (MAE) rehabilitation center (assessment and intervention of adults with acquired neuropathologies and musculoskeletal injuries). Additionally, he is a certified Aqua Therapist from the International Aquatic Therapy Faculty (IATF), since 2019 and a certified “Corrective Exercise Specialist” instructor form the National Academy of Sport Medicine (NASM), since 2022. Besides, he is a Special Scientist at the Microsoft Computer Games and Emerging Technologies Research Lab (GET Lab), at the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, of the CUT. The research carried out by the lab includes Immersion, Presence and Embodiment in Virtual Environments using emerging technologies, Virtual & Augmented Reality for wellbeing especially by combining neuroscience, cognitive psychology concepts and serious games for educational and training purposes for rehabilitation. During the last years he was involved in several research studies in the field of neurorehabilitation and he has participated in many conferences as an invited lecturer.

Dimitris Sokratous is a registered member of the Cyprus Association of Physiotherapists and of the Physical Educators and Sport Scientists Association of the Cyprus Sport Organization. Also, he is a consultant of the scientific committee for the physiotherapies of the adult neurological patents, at the Health Insurance Organization and he is a consultant as well of the of the scientific committee at the Department for Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, which is responsible for the assessments of wheelchair and technical aids, of disable persons. Additionally, he is the president of the Cyprus Neurological Physical Therapy Specialized Group, since 2023 and he is a member of the World Federation for Neurorehabilitation, since 2022. During the past years (1997-2019) he was a water polo player and coach in various teams in Cyprus with many awards.
