From the 9th to the 18th of July 2018, the Cyprus Interaction Lab carried out two innovative educational activities, in the framework of the CUT summer club for children of 5-15 years old.
The educational activities were designed and implemented by a team of researchers at the Cyprus Interaction Lab (CIL) of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, as follows:
- Dr. Yiannis Georgiou (Postdoctoral Researcher)
- Mr. Panagiotis Kosmas (PhD Candidate)
- Mrs. Anna Magidou (Postgraduate Student)
under the coordination of Dr. Andri Ioannou, Assistant Professor and Director of CIL.
The educational activities gave the children the opportunity to participate in two pioneering digital applications, which are based on the modern approaches of technology-enhanced embodied learning, utilizing interactive and motion-based technologies.
More specifically, the digital application "Angle-Makers" is addressed to students of 2nd-4th grades and aims to promote their conceptual understanding in geometry (learning about the concept of angles). The digital application "The Young cardiologists" is addressed to primary and secondary education students, and aims to facilitate their conceptual understanding in matters related to the structure and function of the human circulatory system.
It is worth noting that both of the digital applications were based on emerging technologies, which have not yet been integrated into formal education. As a result, the educational activities were a very interesting and innovative learning experience for all the children who had the opportunity to participate in them! According to the children, the educational activities were novel, interactive and very playful, thus contributing to the acquisition of new knowledge.
