The research labs LGCRL (Language & Graphic Communication Research Lab) and SVClab (Semiotics & Visual Communication Research Lab) of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts of Cyprus University of Technology are organizing a two-day event on typography and graphic design titled “Typo-graphic days 2016”, on October 2016, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd.
The event consists of a series of lectures on Saturday, October 22nd and a type design workshop on Sunday, October 23rd. The official guest and keynote speaker will be Filip Blažek who is a graphic/type designer based in Prague and the Czech delegate of ATypI international organization. Lectures will be also given by Omiros Panayides, Lecturer of Graphic Communication at Cyprus University of Technology, George Souglides, internationally acknowledged brand consultant and Savvas Xinaris, Coordinator of the Graphic and Advertising Design Program in Frederick University.
The lectures are going to be held in English and take place on Saturday 22nd of October, in Amphitheatre 2, Tassos Papadopoulos Building, corner of Themidos and Ifigeneias str., Lemesos. Admission is free to the public. The type design workshop themed “Introduction to type design”, is taking place on Sunday, October 23rd, by Filip Blažek, in the Graphic Design Lab (EGRA) of the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, at Iroon Square, Lemesos. The workshop will be an introduction on the basic principles of type design followed by a practical exercise of creating a simple font: from first sketches, through digitalization to proper export of a functional OpenType font. The workshop will begin at 9.00 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a one-hour break. The number of participants is strictly restricted to 15 persons.
