The Library Project* is a biannual curatorial endeavor of the Department of Fine Arts at the Cyprus University of Technology. It foregrounds the multimedia nature of contemporary art as well as the artistic practices that explore emerging socio-political issues of our times. This year, it will take place in the garden of the Municipal University Library in Limassol.
In cooperation with the Austrian Embassy Nicosia, this second edition of the Library Project will be presenting the Cypriot visual artist Evelyn Anastasiou and her project; an unusual musical performance drawing from The Magic Flute [Die Zauberflöte] (1791) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The artist’s long research gained her access to the Berlin State Library [Staatliche Bibliothek zu Berlin] which houses the original notation of The Magic Flute. There, she discovered a series of incongruities - parts of musical writing that Mozart chose not to include in the final result and were never released. This material will be presented in a live performance with the participation of a large orchestra, removing the boundaries of the artistic genres and proposing experimental aesthetics and the experience of an exhibition as such.
