Participation of students of the Department of Chemical Engineering in the “Chem-E-Car” competition

"Nemesis" team from the Department of Chemical Engineering participated in the Panhellenic “Chem-E-Car” competition, which was organised within the framework of the 14th Panhellenic Scientific Conference of Chemical Engineering in Thessaloniki, between the 29th to 31st May 2024. It is part of the international Chem-E-Car competition, an annual competition for university students, organised by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), which is open to undergraduate students of Chemical Engineering Schools and attracts entries from all over the world. The competition involves the design and construction of a small/portable vehicle powered by a chemical energy source and capable of carrying a given load to a given distance, where it stops with a braking mechanism controlled by the chemical reaction rate alone. The team whose vehicle gets closest to the target wins.

It was the first participation of a team from Cyprus University of Technology in the competition, making a remarkable appearance. The members of the team were the following first year students: Eleni Georgiou (Leader), Styliani Georgiou, Mariannina Vryoni and the first year student George Argyris. IESC LTD sponsored the students' participation in the competition and we would like to thank them for their support to the Department.

The team was under the guidance of Associate Professor Ioannis Vyridis. Support to the team was provided by the following colleagues: Petros Aristideou, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, Panagiotis Pericleous, Technician from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Savvas Panagi, PhD student from the Department of Electrical Engineering, George Vassiliou, fourth year student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Alkis Charalambous, fourth year student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Petros Siegas, Lecturer from the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
