The position of Student Ombuds has been established based on the provisions of the Cyprus University of Technology (Student Matters and Study Subjects) Regulations of 2015 and in particular article 30 "Student Rights".
The role of the Ombuds is to mediate between students and academic or administrative services of the University, to observe legality in the context of academic freedom, to deal with abuse of power and/or any kind of harassment against students.
In the context of his/her duties, "the Student Ombuds" investigates cases ex officio or following a student's report and mediates with the competent bodies of CUT for their resolution and request from the University's services any information, document or other evidence for the case it is investigating, examine persons, perform an autopsy and order an expert opinion
The student's Ombuds may, by his/her act, file a report that is deemed clearly vague, unfounded, or unsupported, while in the event that he/she considers that there are indications of a disciplinary offense, he/she forwards the case to the competent disciplinary body (Disciplinary Review Committee Academic and other Staff, Student Disciplinary Control Committee, Administrative Staff Disciplinary Board). The findings of the Student Ombuds, as well as a report with his/her annual activities, are published on the Foundation's website, subject to the provisions of the legislation on the protection of personal data, as applicable.
By decision of the Senate of the Cyprus University of Technology "Student Ombuds", Dr. Evridiki Papastavrou, Associate Professor (retired and now collaborator), was appointed.
The office of the Student Ombuds is located on the ground floor of the Student Services Building on Athens Street and is open every Wednesday 9:00-12:30. Contact with the advocate can be made in person or by telephone, and then electronic investigation requests are submitted, in forms that can be found on the Student Ombuds' page.
