  With the collapse of the international markets in 2008 and the subsequent bail-outs of financial institutions in many countries including Cyprus, came the unprecedented criticism of governmental collusion with financial imperialism. This criticism has most recently given us waves of protest and resistance worldwide, at a time when the deterritorialised flow of finance capital is melting down all that was once solid, into raw material for market speculation. The exhibition represents a significant response to this crisis. It derives its title from US presidential candidate Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign statement, “It’s the economy, stupid!”, modified to “It’s the political economy, stupid!”, by philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
  Με την κατάρρευση των διεθνών αγορών το 2008 και τις μετέπειτα διασώσεις των χρηματοπιστωτικών ιδρυμάτων σε πολλές χώρες, συμπεριλαμβανομένης και της Κύπρου, ακολούθησε η άνευ προηγουμένου κριτική της συμπαιγνίας μεταξύ των κυβερνήσεων και του οικονομικού ιμπεριαλισμού. Η κριτική αυτή προκάλεσε κύματα διαμαρτυρίας και αντίστασης σε όλο τον κόσμο, καθώς η χωρίς σύνορα ροή οικονομικού κεφαλαίου μετατρέπει οτιδήποτε ήταν κάποτε συμπαγές σε πρώτη ύλη με σκοπό την κερδοσκοπία. Η έκθεση, η οποία αποτελεί μια σημαντική αντίδραση σε αυτή την κρίση, αντλεί τον τίτλο της από το σλόγκαν της εκστρατείας του Αμερικανού προεδρικού υποψήφιου Bill Clinton, «It’s the economy, stupid!», παραλλαγμένο σε «It’s political economy, stupid!», από τον φιλόσοφο Slavoj Zizek.

• ANIMATION FORUM 2013

  Basics in Animation: from the past to the future

   

  The Animation Forum is an academic event on the art of Animation. It aims to educate and inform on animation issues, mainly academics, students and film professionals in Cyprus, and to create a dialogue around Animation. The programme consists of presentations of academic papers, research results and professional works, by world known animation scholars, researches and artists.

   

  It is co-organised by the Cyprus University of Technology [Art History and Theory Lab], 

  Media Desk–Cyprus and Animafest–Views of the World Animation Festival.

   

  The Animation Forum will have the character of a small conference. It will consist of 3 presentations and a panel discussion (all in English): 

  Prof. Marina Estela Graça, animator and semiotician, University of Algarve, Portugal, on 'Modes of codification in animation'

  Abi Feijó, Animation producer, film director and director of Museu da Imagem Animada, Portugal, on 'Cinema before the Lumière Brothers'

  Borivoj Dovniković Bordo, Pioneer of Croatian animation, film director, animator,

  illustrator, caricaturist, comic-strip designer and graphic designer, Croatia, on 'Borivoj Dovnikovic Bordo and the Zagreb School of Animated Film'

   

  Panel Discussion:
