Giorgos Venizelos is Lecturer in Political Communication. His research integrates comparative politics, contemporary political theory and political communication, exploring populism, anti-populism, polarization, political identities and political discourse.
He is the author of
Populism in Power: Discourse and Performativity in SYRIZA and Donald Trump (Routledge, 2023), and has published in journals such as
Communication Review, Critical Sociology, Political Studies, Constellations, and Representation.
Before joining the Department of Communication and Marketing at the Cyprus University of Technology in 2025, he was Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellow (CO-FUND) at the University of Cyprus, Fellow in Political Polarization at CEU’s
[...]Democracy Institute, postdoctoral researcher at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and adjunct lecturer at the University of Cyprus.
He holds a PhD in Political Science and Sociology from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, Italy, an MA in International Studies from the Department of Politics at Goldsmiths College, University of London (2015) and a BA from the Department of Government at the University of Essex (2014).
He co-convenes the Populism Specialist Group (Political Studies Association, UK).
