The Functionally Optimized Structures and Climate Innovation Research Group was founded by Dr. Stelios Yiatros, Assistant Professor in Structural Engineering in the Dept of Civil Engineering & Geomatics, in 2013. Its mission is to undertake applied research in structural stability and integrity of novel multifunctional materials and structures in collaboration with research institutions and industry both at national and international level. Since 2016 when the university joined the European Union’s Knowledge Innovation Community on Climate Change (EIT Climate-KIC), the group participates in the multidisciplinary Sustainable Energy Lab contributing in Climate Innovation Education, Circular Economy in construction and sustainable biomimetic design.
