Health Center

The Cyprus University of Technology operates two Health Centers: one in Limassol, located in the "Andreas Themistocleous" building, and one in Paphos, located on Level 0 of the School of Tourism Management, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship building. Each Center is staffed by two qualified Nursing Officers.

The purpose of the Health Center is to provide first aid and nursing care, as well as to contribute to disease prevention and the promotion of health and well-being across the university community through awareness, counseling, participation in prevention programs, and collaboration with other university services and academic departments.

Services and Activities

The Center's services and activities include:

  • First aid and nursing care: Providing first aid to university students, staff, and visitors, and performing general nursing duties, with referrals to appropriate healthcare services when indicated.
  • Prevention and early detection of health issues: Providing advice on illness prevention and participating in screening programs for the early detection of health issues among students.
  • Health counseling and healthy lifestyles: Advising students on general and personal hygiene, substance use prevention, and adopting healthy behaviors—such as balanced nutrition, physical activity, and avoiding smoking—as well as on sexual and reproductive health, with guidance or referrals to specialized services when needed.
  • Mental health and emotional well-being: Informing and guiding students on mental health and emotional well-being, with referrals to the specialized Counseling Center of the Student Development Center, which offers free and confidential psychological and psychotherapeutic support, along with seminars and experiential workshops on stress management, socio-emotional skills, and mental health promotion.
  • Health promotion and public health awareness: Promoting the health of students and staff and raising awareness on public health matters through informational campaigns, awareness drives, and health education initiatives in collaboration with other university services, academic departments, and external bodies.

Health Center services are provided free of charge to university students.

Collaborations and Health Promotion Initiatives

Health Center services are supported and complemented by initiatives from the Department of Nursing and its postgraduate programs in Community Nursing and Midwifery through educational activities, awareness programs, community interventions, and partnerships with external organizations focused on prevention and health promotion.

These initiatives include:

  • Smoking Cessation Program: The Department of Nursing collaborates with the Cyprus National Addictions Authority to host a smoking cessation program on university premises twice a week. The program is open to students, staff members, and the general public, broadening access to cessation support services.
  • PrePARE for Life Study – Health and Lifestyle of Young Adults: The Department of Nursing conducts the "PrePARE for Life" research study, investigating a wide range of health and lifestyle factors among students and young adults—including diet, physical activity, sleep, substance use, mental and reproductive health, and other biological, behavioral, and psychosocial dimensions. The findings aim to improve the understanding of student health needs and support the design of targeted university prevention and wellness programs.

More information is available regarding the PrePARE for Life study.

Access to Medical Services

The Health Center provides first aid and nursing care, but does not replace medical treatment services. When medical evaluation or treatment is necessary, Nursing Officers guide individuals on accessing appropriate healthcare facilities.

Students eligible for the General Healthcare System (GeSY) can access medical care services through the system, either free of charge or with standard co-payments depending on the service. They may consult their Personal Doctor (GP) for free consultations and care, as well as referrals to specialists, hospitals, or clinics participating in GeSY.

For further information on registration and accessing GeSY services, visit the official GeSY website.
