Research Topic Title:

Detection and assessment of language difficulties in early childhood

No. of Openings:

1

Description:

Language disorders affect a child's ability to learn, understand and use language. Also, children with Language Disorders face functional limitations that can affect their academic performance, ability to form social relationships, and daily interactions. These behavioural characteristics may persist into adulthood and manifest in different ways, such as vocational failure. The absence of evidence-based policies for providing speech-language services internationally and in Cyprus is the reason for this doctoral thesis. This doctoral thesis aims to develop language assessment tools and a framework for detecting, assessing, and diagnosing children with language disorders before they enter primary school. The development of the above will ensure the rights of these children to access appropriate speech and language services, which will benefit their academic progress and socio-emotional health.

Funding:

The doctoral candidate may be employed as a teaching assistant, receive an internal scholarship from the University or another source based on his/her excellence, and participate in funded research projects that may secure funding.

Required Qualifications:

To apply for the position mentioned above, candidates are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in Speech Therapy from an accredited University, as well as a Master's Degree in Speech Therapy or a related field from an accredited University. Additionally, candidates should possess excellent English language skills. Previous research experience in a relevant field will also be considered an advantage.
