Mission and Objectives

The key objective of the Department of Communication and Internet Studies is to create a center of excellence, which will focus both on teaching and research as well as professional training, through the study and promotion of all existing or developing aspects of this scientific field.

At the same time, the Department aims to contribute to the cultural and economic development, both regionally and internationally, and to create an environment that promotes critical thinking and positive social intervention, along with the convenience of graduates to develop all the necessary qualifications and skills that meet the challenges of the Information Society.

In order to meet its objectives, the Department of Communication and Internet Studies will ensure:

  • To attract students, researchers and academic staff with high qualifications.
  • To be actively involved in research activities focusing on cross-sectional and applied research, which aims to understand the processes by which human actions are shaped by new forms of communication and how these are shaped.
  • To offer high quality education at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in combination with relevant internship where applicable.  
  • To provide the necessary experiences for graduates that will allow them to develop an informed opinion about the new environment in the areas of information and communication, thus enabling them to contribute to society.
  • To seek active (please check source text) , to create and maintain relations with other departments and organizations with similar interests, both locally and internationally.
  • To contribute to policy development in the field of new communication technologies, both locally and internationally.
  • To foster the development of lifelong learning.

The Department of Communication and Internet Studies Graduates will gain knowledge, experience and skills that will allow them:

  • To participate in planning at a strategic and executive level in the information-related professions.
  • To effectively use the media to identify and disseminate information.
  • To acquire excellent skills in presentation and communication, both in oral and writing.  
  • To make a critical assessment of the impact of existing and emerging communication technologies in their professional and private lives, at local, national and international level.
  • To be creative, innovative and knowledge producers, as individuals and as team members.
  • To pursue a career in information and communication-related fields.
  • To obtain senior research qualifications in relevant fields.
  • To become participants of lifelong learning.
