Job Summary:

As a Junior Accountant at TMS Group, you will provide crucial support to the accounting and finance team in managing the financial operations of our shipping and trading business. This role offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop a strong foundation in accounting practices within the maritime industry. The Junior Accountant will work closely with senior accountants and financial managers to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and maintain compliance with relevant regulations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Recordkeeping:
    • Accurately record financial transactions, such as invoices, receipts, payments, and expenses.
    • Enter data into accounting software and maintain organized financial records.
  2. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    • Assist in processing invoices from suppliers and ensuring timely payments.
    • Help prepare and issue invoices to customers and monitor accounts receivable.
    • Follow up on outstanding payments and maintain proper documentation.
  3. Bank Reconciliation:
    • Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure accurate matching of company records with bank statements.
    • Investigate and resolve any discrepancies identified during the reconciliation process.
  4. Expense Management:
    • Review and verify expense claims, ensuring adherence to company policies.
    • Reconcile credit card statements, receipts, and other financial documents.
    • Assist in monitoring and controlling expenses.
  5. Financial Reporting:
    • Support the preparation of financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Compile financial data and assist in the generation of reports for management review.
    • Provide accurate and timely financial information to aid decision-making processes.
  6. Auditing and Compliance:
    • Collaborate with internal and external auditors by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
  7. General Ledger Maintenance:
    • Record journal entries and adjust entries accurately to maintain the general ledger.
    • Assist in reconciling subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
  8. Collaborative Support:
    • Liaise with other departments, such as procurement, operations, and administration, to facilitate smooth financial processes.
    • Provide assistance during the budgeting and forecasting processes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Good Knowledge in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial recordkeeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a dynamic industry.
