Exception for the Department of Fine Arts

Eligibility Criteria for Academic Staff, with regard to subjects considered of exceptional and unquestionable particularity (Fine, Visual and Performing Arts), for the Department of Fine Arts

With regard to the appointment to Academic Posts (Teaching-Research Staff) at the Department of Fine Arts, for which the required qualification is a Master’s Degree – according to the amendment of the Cyprus University of Technology Law of 2012 (111(I)/2012), as it was published in the official Government Gazette on July 17, 2012, Issue no. 4348 – the following exception is applied concerning the eligible qualifications of Academic Staff, for the subjects of which their specialty is considered of exceptional and unquestionable particularity, within the areas of Fine, Visual and Performing Arts* (for which the authorship of a doctoral thesis and the acquisition of a doctoral degree are either not possible or not common). For the candidates for the above Academic Posts, the required qualifications are as follows:

For the Post of Lecturer

  1. Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree,
  2. Portfolio** that should include acclaimed and/or award-winning work,
  3. Exhibition of personal work in solo shows and/or through participation in groups exhibitions or international art events,
  4. at least five (5) years of autonomous teaching or research work, after the award of the Master’s Degree, at an accredited institution of higher or highest education, or research centre, and
  5. demonstrated ability for university-level teaching and research

For the Post of Assistant Professor

  1. Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree,
  2. Portfolio** that should include acclaimed and/or award-winning work,
  3. Exhibition of personal work in solo shows and/or through participation in groups exhibitions or international art events,
  4. at least seven (7) years of autonomous teaching or research work, after the award of the Master’s Degree, at an accredited institution of higher or highest education, or at an acclaimed research centre or foundation or other such institution, which is directly involved with Fine Arts; or, currently holding an equivalent-ranked post at a recognized university, and
  5. demonstrated ability for university-level teaching and research

For the Post of Associate Professor

  1. Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree,
  2. Portfolio** that should include acclaimed and/or award-winning work,
  3. Exhibition of personal work in solo shows and/or through participation in groups exhibitions or international art events,
  4. at least eleven (11) years of autonomous teaching or research work, after the award of the Master’s Degree, at an accredited institution of higher or highest education, or at an acclaimed research centre or foundation or other such institution, which is directly involved with Fine Arts; or, currently holding an equivalent-ranked post at a recognized university, and
  5. demonstrated ability for university-level teaching and research,
  6. demonstrated ability for overseeing and promoting research work, including the supervision of post-graduate students, guiding or contributing to research programmes or procuring research funding,
  7. contribution to the teaching and administrative work of the university, and
  8. international acclaim of the candidate’s artistic oeuvre

For the Post of Professor

  1.  Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree,
  2. Portfolio** that should include acclaimed and/or award-winning work,
  3. Exhibition of personal work in solo shows and/or through participation in groups exhibitions or international art events,
  4. at least fifteen (15) years of autonomous teaching or research work, after the award of the Master’s Degree, at an accredited institution of higher or highest education, or at an acclaimed research centre or foundation or other such institution, which is directly involved with Fine Arts; or, currently holding an equivalent-ranked post at a recognized university, and
  5. demonstrated ability for university-level teaching and research,
  6. demonstrated ability for overseeing and promoting research work, including the supervision of post-graduate students, guiding or contributing to research programmes or procuring research funding,
  7. contribution to the teaching and administrative work of the university, and
  8. international acclaim of the candidate’s artistic oeuvre

Notes:
* the field of Art History and Theory is not included among the subjects of which their specialty is considered of exceptional and unquestionable particularity.
** “portfolio” refers to the collection and exhibition of work that regards one’s artistic creation, by any means, type and materials of artistic expression and construction, including the arrangement of objects, space and environments.

Exception for the Department of Fine Arts
