As the modern world increasingly focuses on energy and the environmental issues, the science of chemical engineering is called upon through applied research to produce solutions that serve both human and natural environments.
Chemical engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering science based on the results and methods of chemistry. The main research and study area is the development of methods and the safe design and utilization of factories for chemicals production or processing.
Every chemical engineer applies the principles of chemical, physical, mathematical, economical and technical sciences to fields related to material flow processes, material transformation, and process installations where the material is put under conversion or processing in the most advantageous manner by a technician, economic and social point of view.
The programme is jointly offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology and the Department of Environmental Science and Technology. The study programme provides scientific training in Chemical Engineering and specialization in the fields of Petrochemical Engineering and Environmental Chemical Engineering.
According to the study programme, knowledge is initially provided towards introducing students to Chemical Engineering topics. Knowledge is also provided through modules that will help the students successfully follow the specialized modules taught in the semesters of the last two years. In the final year of studies, students will have the opportunity to complete a thesis related to the subject of their studies under the supervision of Department professors.
The Department offers a four-year undergraduate programme and awards a degree in Chemical Engineering. A degree in Chemical Engineering requires the completion of at least 240 European Credit Units (ECTS). The Bachelor’s degree is registered in the Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ΕΤΕΚ) and accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (CYQAA).
